Over spring break, 12 students from the University of Colorado spent their spring break with us building the kids gardens for the Kids R Farmers program; kids classes will begin in May. The students built raised garden beds, worked the soil and planted. Organics by Gosh and Johnson’s Backyard Organic Garden and the 6701 Burnet Road Market donated all materials. The project was lead by market director, J Kruse and founder of Urban Patchwork Neighborhood Farm, Paige Hill.

Parents frequently ask Paige if they can bring kiddos to the neighborhood farm to take a tour and “learn where food comes from”. At the same time, we understand folks can’t swing by the farmers’ market because it’s difficult to find something for the kids to do while they’re making shopping decisions. So Paige and J came up with a great program that brings to life a whole new concept, Kids R Farmers, at the market!
Kids Grow at the Market” just one of the “Kids R Farmers” program is a great solution providing fun, interactive learning while connecting children directly to the soil and plants as well as the full circle system. They see what makes good soil, where food comes from and what it takes to grow it, they meet their farmers, and they learn what it takes to get the food from the seed to the market to the plates…all in
ONE GREAT PLACE!
